An Emmy and Annie-nominated fable, reimagined for Disney+ through painterly animation.
Moremi is a Nigerian tale brought to the screen in collaboration with writer and director Shofela Coker. Produced for the Disney+ anthology Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, the short film was commissioned by Triggerfish, the South African studio behind the series.
Lucan developed a hybrid 2D/3D pipeline to achieve a painterly style that drew inspiration from Nigerian architecture, printmaking, and Egungun dance. The result is animation that feels cinematic, subtle, and restrained, while staying rooted in authentic visual traditions.
Working as the smallest crew in the anthology, Lucan used the project as a testing ground for new workflows. Midway through production, the team created a fully 2D “story within a story” sequence, showcasing both versatility and innovation.
Moremi stands as a testament to the impact of cultural storytelling and the creative ambition behind its making.
